Known for its exceptional surfing beach, colourful stretch of beach huts, rich history and fascinating architectural heritage, Muizenberg is a beachfront suburb that always delights locals and tourists seeking out the most stunning destinations around Cape Town. A selection of restaurants and attractions line Muizenberg’s expansive beachfront and the chilled-out vibe of this welcoming surfing suburb is truly an infectious one.
Muizenberg, also referred to by locals as “Muizies”, is situated where the shore of the Cape Peninsula meets False Bay’s coastline, and is loved by tourists for its warm ocean waters and great surfing waves. Many of the Cape’s best surfers learnt to surf in Muizenberg, where consistent waves allow for days of blissful summer adventures. While enjoying a tour with Mesmin Poba Touring, Muizenberg forms part of our Peninsula Half Day Tour and Peninsula Full Day Tour, as well as our popular Full Day Combined Tour that explores the best attractions and scenic landscapes of the Cape Winelands and Peninsula. Muizenberg’s attractive and family-friendly Sunrise Beach offers more than 15 km’s of white sand, while the colourful beach houses are synonymous with the area and make for amazing photograph opportunities.
The famous Battle of Muizenberg, lasting for 3 months from August 1795, may have been small but was certainly significant, ending with the first British occupation of the Cape, and eventually their occupation of more of South Africa. Remnants of this era include the historical defence fort that was started by the Dutch in 1975 and still lies on the hillside that overlooks False Bay. Initially, Muizenberg was the destination of choice for holiday homes of the rich, after gold was discovered in the Witwatersrand in 1886. Most of the older buildings in Muizenberg reflect an art deco style; whiles Rhodes Cottage is another popular older home that has been preserved as a museum that is open to the public.
Mountains forming part of Table Mountain National Park create a beautiful backdrop to Muizenberg and add to the lure of this lovely destination, which is accessed from the breathtaking Boyes Drive along False Bay during one of our Mesmin Poba Touring tours. At Mesmin Poba Touring, all of our tour guides are dedicated to creating wonderful experiences for all, in addition to being well trained and knowledgeable of the best assets and attractions of Cape Town and its surroundings. Private French Tour Guides are also available to tourists.
